In May 2024, Floyd Mayweather’s fans were left disappointed after contract breaches led to the cancellation of a mass class originally scheduled for 11:00 AM on May 16, 2024, at the Zócalo in Mexico City.
The Mexico City Government had planned to present Mayweather with a recognition that day. The five-time world champion not only failed to show up at the Zócalo but also disappointed fans who had attended a press conference where the exhibition match against Víctor Ortiz, set for August 24, 2024, was announced.
Mayweather didn’t show up for either the press conference or the mass boxing class, even deleting posts about the event from his social media.
The World Boxing Council and Julio César Chávez are working to restore boxing’s reputation and ensure the success of this new event.
